April 2026 Visual Thinking Events

Happy April! I wanted to let you know about the events taking place inside of Verbal to Visual this month.

If you’re already a member, mark your calendar for these workshops (you can also follow the links below to RSVP, once you’re logged in). If you’re not yet part of our learning community, know that you can now join through a free week-long trial to access all of our self-paced courses and live events.

In the video above (and in the descriptions below) I give you a quick run-down of the upcoming events.

April 2nd – Q & A with Doug

This is your chance to share a piece of work for feedback, ask a specific question that’s come up in your practice, or figure out your plan for moving forward with visual thinking. These sessions are great because we spend the full 90 minutes seeing and hearing about your work. There’s always a wonderful cross-pollination of ideas.

April 9th – Workshop: Setting the Scope

As visual thinkers, one of our jobs is to decide how broad or narrow to go with your sketch. How much should you include? How do you decide what does and doesn’t make the cut? Those are the questions that we’ll explore in this workshop that will focus on setting the scope of your sketch, a topic that appears in the Ready, Aim, Sketch lesson within the Core Curriculum.

April 16th – Q & A with Doug

Another opportunity to share some work for feedback, ask a specific question that’s come up in your practice, or figure out your plan for moving forward with visual thinking.

April 23rd – Deliberate Play: Tell Me a Story

In this deliberate play event we’ll be using the Spark cards from Seek Discomfort to take turns telling stories while the rest of us sketch out the key events and themes. This will be a great opportunity to practice your real-time sketching skills while learning about fellow community members!

April 30th – Book Club: Rapid Viz & How to Make Sense of Any Mess (Part 1)

Join us for the start of our second book club of 2026! This quarter we’re focusing on visual thinking skill-building while reading Rapid Viz by Kurt Hanks and Larry Belliston and How to Make Sense of Any Mess by Abby Covert. Prior to this event I encourage you to read (and try putting into practice) the first third of the book. During the event we’ll discuss the strategies from that section of the book and how we can each apply them to our own visual thinking projects.

Those workshops will take place on Zoom at 9:00am Pacific Time, will run for about 90 minutes, and the replay will be posted later that same day.

To join us, check out the Verbal to Visual: All-Access Pass, which includes our full library of self-paced visual thinking courses, access to the live events described above, as well as an asynchronous community platform where you can share your work and get inspired by the work of others.

Hope to see you inside!

Cheers,

-Doug
